Vegan Vitamin D from WLS is the exact same vitamin D that our skin makes. It is the most bioavailable form for our human digestive system.
Vegan by algae, 100% plant-based
Our Vitamin D3 Vegan is formed from algae and therefore 100 per cent plant-based. Algae make vitamin D3 in a similar way to humans, based on UV radiation (sunlight). This maintains the good absorbability of vitamin D3.
How is non-vegan vitamin D made?
The most common raw material used to produce vitamin D is wool fat. This Vitamin D is made by exposing the fat from sheep's wool (lanolin) to UV light. Due to the use of this animal wool, we do not consider vitamin D formed from wool fat to be vegan.
Vitamin D3 is the best form
There are two forms of vitamin D most commonly found in the diet: vitamin D2 and vitamin D3.
Vitamin D2 is also known as ergocalciferol. It is naturally produced by some fungi and yeasts. It is often added to foods such as breakfast cereals and dairy products to increase intake.
Vitamin D3 is also known as cholecalciferol. It is produced when the skin is exposed to UVB rays from the sun. It can also be found in foods such as oily fish and egg yolks. Vitamin D3 is the more active form of vitamin D and is therefore considered more effective than vitamin D2 in raising blood levels of vitamin D. This is because vitamin D3 is better absorbed and stays in the body longer than vitamin D2.
